Junk Removal Cost in Texas (2026): Prices by Load, Item and City

Junk removal in Texas typically costs $97 to $170 for a minimum pickup of one or two items, $291 to $504 for a half truckload and $534 to $970 for a full truckload, according to Junk Cost Calculator's Texas price page (checked October 2026). HomeGuide's national guide is lower: most homeowners spend $150 to $350, and a full truck costs $400 to $450.

What you pay depends on how much of the truck your junk fills, what it is, and how hard it is to get out of the house. This guide breaks the price down by load size, by single item and by Texas city, explains the extra fees, and shows how to keep the bill down.

Quick answer: Depending on the guide, expect roughly $70–$170 for a minimum pickup, $100–$290 for a quarter truck, $200–$500 for a half truck and $400–$970 for a full truck. Contractor reports collected by ProMatcher put the average half truckload at about $348 in Houston and $354 to $359 in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas–Fort Worth. These are typical ranges from third-party cost guides, not quotes. Always get a price from the company you hire.

How junk removal companies price a job

Almost every junk removal company in Texas prices by volume: how much space your items take up in the truck. You don't pay by the hour or by the number of items in most cases. The crew looks at your pile, estimates what fraction of the truck it will fill, and quotes a price for that fraction.

A typical junk removal truck holds about 16 to 18 cubic yards. HomeGuide's guide describes a full load as 420 to 480 cubic feet, and says one full load equals about four pickup-truck loads. The contractor reports collected by ProMatcher use a 12-foot truck with about 18 cubic yards as a full load.

The quoted price usually includes:

  • Labor: a crew of two loads everything, from wherever it is in the house.
  • Hauling to a landfill, transfer station, recycler or donation center.
  • Disposal fees for ordinary household junk.

Not every company prices this way. Some charge by the item for single pickups. A few charge by the hour per worker. ProMatcher's Texas reports include hourly rates as low as $25 to $30 per worker-hour in Grand Prairie and as high as $80 to $100 in Fort Worth and $100 near Sealy. If a company quotes by the hour, ask whether the dump fee is extra.

Junk removal cost by load size

This is the table most people need. It shows the common load sizes, how much each holds, and what it typically costs, from two guides.

Sources: HomeGuide's junk removal price list (volumes converted from cubic feet; last updated May 2024) and Junk Cost Calculator's Texas page (checked October 2026). HomeGuide also lists in-between sizes, such as a 1/6 load at $90 to $130 and a 5/8 load at $250 to $330.

The two guides disagree, especially at the top end, and it's worth knowing why:

  • HomeGuide reports average prices from estimates its pros give homeowners across the country. Its figures are national and sit at the low end.
  • Junk Cost Calculator starts from 2026 national ranges and adjusts them for each state. Its methodology page says Texas prices come out about 3 percent below the national average, and calls the state figures cost-of-living adjustments, not surveys of Texas prices. Its ranges are wide on purpose, to cover the gap between sources.

In practice, a half truck in a big Texas city usually lands somewhere between the two, which is what the Texas contractor reports below show.

What fits in each load

Volume is hard to picture, so here's a rough guide. These are estimates; the crew's eye on the day decides the price.

  • Minimum load: one or two bulky items, such as a couch, a mattress set or an old fridge.
  • 1/4 truck: a small room's worth, like a bedroom set or a couch, a chair and some boxes. About the same as a full pickup truck bed.
  • 1/2 truck: a garage corner, a small apartment cleanout or a living room of furniture.
  • 3/4 truck: most of a packed garage, or a one-bedroom apartment move-out.
  • Full truck: a whole-house or estate cleanout, or a big garage plus attic.

Bigger jobs can need more than one truckload. Price per cubic yard usually drops as the load grows, because the trip and the crew cost the company about the same either way.

Junk removal cost in Texas cities

Third-party guides publish few city-level junk removal figures for Texas. The most detailed are the contractor price reports collected by ProMatcher, a contractor-matching site. Each city page averages reported prices for a half truckload (9 cubic yards in a 12-foot truck) across that metro's ZIP codes.

The headline: the big Texas metros price junk removal almost the same. The averages are within about $11 of each other. Your own price will depend far more on what you're throwing away and how much of it there is than on which city you live in.

Houston

ProMatcher's Houston average is $348 for a half truck, with reports from Pasadena, Pearland, Conroe and Angleton all in the $267 to $430 range. A newer 2026 report from near Sealy lists $200 to $400 for a half load and $400 to $500 for a full load. Houston is spread out, so companies based far from your address may add a travel charge. Our directory lists 172 junk removal companies serving Houston. Compare junk removal companies in Houston.

Dallas–Fort Worth

ProMatcher groups Dallas and Fort Worth reports together, for an average of $359 for a half truck. Reports from Arlington, Irving, Plano and McKinney run slightly higher than those from Denton, Weatherford and Fort Worth itself. Full-load reports in the metro range widely, from $450 to $500 in Plano to $550 to $880 in McKinney. Our directory lists 149 companies serving Dallas and 116 serving Fort Worth. Compare junk removal companies in Dallas.

Austin

Austin's average is $354 for a half truck, with reports from San Marcos and Round Rock in the same range. Narrow streets, steep driveways and upstairs units can mean longer carries, which some companies charge extra for. Our directory lists 146 companies serving Austin. Compare junk removal companies in Austin.

San Antonio

San Antonio also averages $354 for a half truck, with a Seguin report in the same range. San Antonio has fewer junk removal companies than the other big metros: our directory lists 69. With fewer to choose from, book early for big jobs. To compare them, pick San Antonio on our junk removal page, linked above.

Smaller Texas cities

In cities like Lubbock, Amarillo, Tyler, Corpus Christi or Midland, there's little published price data. Prices depend on how far the nearest company is from you and which landfill it uses. Expect the same general ranges, with more difference between companies, and get at least two quotes.

What single items cost to remove

If you only have one or two things to get rid of, many companies quote by the item. The table shows Junk Cost Calculator's Texas ranges next to HomeGuide's national figures where it has one.

Two things to know about item prices:

  1. One item costs more per item than several. Haulers charge for truck space and the trip. A couch on its own might cost $90 to $175, but added to a half-truck load it costs far less than that extra.
  2. The hot tub figures disagree a lot. HomeGuide's price list shows $100 to $150, while Junk Cost Calculator shows $340 to $582. Hot tubs are heavy, have to be disconnected and are often cut apart to get them out, so the price depends on the spa and where it sits. Get a quote for your specific hot tub. A hot tub removal guide is coming later in this series.

Extra fees that push the price up

The load price covers ordinary household junk carried out by a two-person crew. These are the things that add to it.

Heavy items and appliances

Items that are heavy or need special handling carry surcharges. HomeGuide lists these typical add-ons on top of the load price:

  • Refrigerators and freezers: $35 to $60 each, because the refrigerant has to be removed safely.
  • Air conditioning units: $35 to $60 each.
  • Pianos: $50 to $100.
  • Tires: about $10 each with rims or $5 without, usually once you have more than four.
  • Railroad ties: about $30 each.

The ProMatcher contractor reports in Texas list the same kinds of exclusions: pianos, oil drums, batteries, oversized appliances and refrigerators are usually priced separately.

Construction debris, concrete and dirt

Junk removal is priced for bulky but light household items. Heavy debris is different. HomeGuide says construction waste removal costs $200 to $250 depending on the type, and that companies usually price dirt, gravel and concrete by the bed load rather than by volume. Several Texas contractor reports on ProMatcher exclude concrete altogether. If your project is mostly heavy debris, a dumpster may be cheaper; see the comparison below.

Hazardous waste

Most junk removal companies won't take hazardous waste: paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, car batteries, motor oil, fuel and propane tanks. Those that do charge extra. HomeGuide puts hazardous waste disposal at as little as $10 per item or $60 to $125 per item, depending on local fees, and about $10 per gallon for latex paint. Many Texas cities and counties run free household hazardous waste drop-off sites or collection days for residents, which is usually the cheapest option. Check your city's solid waste page.

Stairs, long carries and access

Junk Cost Calculator notes that stairs, long carries and heavy items push the price up. A crew carrying a sleeper sofa down two flights of stairs works harder than one lifting it off a driveway. If the items are on an upper floor, in an attic or behind a locked gate, say so when you ask for a quote.

Same-day service

Same-day pickups usually cost more, according to Junk Cost Calculator. If you can wait a few days, ask whether a later slot is cheaper.

Distance and dump fees

The company pays to unload at a landfill or transfer station, and that cost is built into your price. Texas is cheaper than most of the country here. The Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) found the average landfill tipping fee in its South Central region, which includes Texas, was $45.25 per ton in 2023, against $56.80 nationally. Distance matters too: HomeGuide lists travel distance and the number of stops at landfills, recyclers and charities among its pricing factors.

Do you tip junk removal crews?

Tipping is not expected, but it's appreciated when a crew does a hard job well. HomeGuide suggests about 10 percent of the bill, or $10 to $20 per crew member, if the crew does a great job and spends more time than expected.

How to keep your junk removal cost down

  1. Do one big pickup, not several small ones. One half truck costs less than two quarter trucks, because the company makes one trip.
  2. Move items to the curb or driveway. Junk Cost Calculator notes curbside pickups usually cost less than an in-home carry-out. Only do this if you can lift safely, and check your HOA's rules on leaving items outside.
  3. Donate or sell first. Furniture and appliances in good shape can go to a charity pickup or a resale listing. HomeGuide notes many nonprofits will collect furniture, appliances and household goods for free.
  4. Use your city's bulk or heavy trash pickup. Many Texas cities collect furniture and other bulky items from the curb on a schedule, for free or for a small fee. It's slower and has limits, but it can handle a few large pieces. Guides to bulk trash pickup in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston are coming later in this series.
  5. Keep hazardous items out. Take paint, chemicals and batteries to a household hazardous waste site instead of paying a surcharge.
  6. Break things down. Flattened boxes and disassembled bed frames take less truck space.
  7. Get at least three quotes. The ranges above are wide. Send photos when you ask, so the quotes are closer to the final price.

Junk removal or a dumpster: which costs less?

Junk removal is usually cheaper and easier when:

  • you have a few large items or a single room's worth of stuff
  • you can't or don't want to do the lifting
  • you want it gone today or tomorrow, with nothing sitting in your driveway

A dumpster is usually cheaper when:

  • you're producing debris over several days, during a remodel or a big cleanout
  • you're happy to load it yourself
  • the debris is heavy, like shingles or tile, and fits within the weight allowance

For comparison, a 20-yard roll-off dumpster rents for about $300 to $550 a week in Texas's biggest cities. See our guide to dumpster rental prices in Texas. A full junk removal truck holds about 16 to 18 cubic yards, so for a similar volume the two can cost about the same. The difference is who does the loading and how long the job takes. A full guide comparing junk removal and dumpster rental is coming next in this series.

How to get an accurate junk removal quote

Most companies give a rough estimate over the phone or from photos, then confirm the price on site before they load. To get a quote you can rely on, tell them:

  • What the items are: furniture, appliances, boxes, yard waste, construction debris or a mix.
  • Roughly how much: number of large items, or how many pickup-truck loads.
  • Where the items are: curb, garage, upstairs, attic or backyard, and anything that makes access hard.
  • Anything heavy or special: pianos, hot tubs, fridges, tires, paint or chemicals.
  • When you need it done.

Then ask:

  • Is the price all-in, including labor, hauling and disposal?
  • What's included for the price: how much of the truck, and how many workers?
  • Are there extra charges for appliances, mattresses, tires or heavy debris?
  • Is there a charge for stairs, long carries or same-day service?
  • Will usable items be donated or recycled?
  • Is the price confirmed before loading starts?

HomeGuide also suggests confirming the quote covers everything, including pickup, loading, taxes, dump fees and mileage, and asking about any hazardous waste or electronics surcharges.
